Berlin Discussion Forum
Transition from Gas Markets to Hydrogen Markets
Over the summer, the transition to hydrogen gained further momentum. The direction of travel has become clearer with the approval of the EU Delegated Acts on Renewable Hydrogen in June, and Germany announcing its new National Hydrogen Strategy in July. In the last week of September, the European Commission, EU member states and the private sector discussed auctions for imports of renewable hydrogen to the EU, including using the H2Global mechanism. On 23 November 2023, the EU Hydrogen Bank is conducting its first pilot auction for EU-domestic renewable hydrogen production, and a second auction will follow in Spring 2024 as announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the European Hydrogen Week in Brussels.
Join us on Tuesday 28 November 2023 at the Berlin Discussion Forum to explore the topical issues facing the journey to successfully achieving decarbonisation through hydrogen adoption and implementation.
The speakers will discuss questions including:
- How can the supply and demand for gas be managed this coming winter?
- What does it take to transition to hydrogen? Considerations include transport and storage, import strategies, and auctions for import and offtake.
- Which markets are emerging for hydrogen, and how may regional clusters, for hydrogen and its derivatives, develop over the next few years?
- How can the transition be accelerated, through regulation, law and economics, and support schemes for renewable hydrogen?
