We invite you to a free state aid event in Brussels on 19 April 2018, starting at 18.00. We will debate the European Commission’s increasing focus on ex post assessments of state aid measures.

Speaking at the event will be Barbara Brandtner, Head of the State Aid Strategy Unit at DG Competition, Sven Kaiser, Head of the State Aid Control Unit at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, and a senior representative from the French government (to be confirmed).

We will look to answer such questions as:

• how are ex post evaluations carried out?
• how should the impact on competition be assessed?
• what might be the consequences if an assessment identifies significant detrimental effects as a result of a particular state aid measure?

Oxera Partners, Nicole Robins and Enno Eilts, will speak on the insights and findings from Oxera’s recent study for the European Commission on the impact of state aid on competition. Dr Gunnar Niels will host the event.
