Emiel is a member of Oxera’s Competition team. He uses economics and analytical tools to provide solutions to a range of client issues. He has worked on projects relating to cartels, mergers, estimation of damages, and market dominance, as well as a project relating to regulatory policy.
Prior to joining Oxera, Emiel completed Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in economics and political science in the Netherlands, and obtained his MA and PhD from the University of Rochester. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Government at the London School of Economics and Political Science from 2019 to 2022, teaching and doing research on political economy. He was also an Associate Research Scholar at the Department of Politics at Princeton University from 2022 to 2023, where he was a member of the Program for Quantitative and Analytical Political Science. In most of his research, Emiel uses game theory to answer questions relating to lobbying, policymaking, and organisational design.
