Georgi Rusinov : Consultant

Georgi is a member of Oxera’s Regulation and Market Design team. He has experience in economic modelling, impact assessments, econometrics and analytics. His specific interests include transport, regulation, demand and macroeconomic forecasting, and data science using Python and R.

Leveraging his modelling and research skills, Georgi has provided advice to companies, regulators, and government officials on a wide range of transport and infrastructure appraisals and impact assessments. Additionally, he has contributed to macroeconomic forecasting, playing a central role in the development and marketing of a new European housing forecasting model, and collaborating closely with private equity, investment management, and hedge fund professionals on macroeconomic issues.

Prior to joining Oxera, Georgi worked as an economist at a variety of advisory firms including Deloitte, Oxford Economics, CBRE and Mott MacDonald. He completed his Bachelor’s and Research Master’s degrees at the University of Cambridge. As part of his postgraduate research, Georgi developed spatial econometric techniques to estimate the present-day impacts of historical legal and political institutions.

professional experience

  • Modelled the economic impact of a new suburban motorway on the economy of a large European city, and conducted a Value for Money analysis of a public–private partnership (PPP) funding structure for an infrastructure investor (2024)

  • Co-developed a spatial impact analysis model in Python that estimates the economic impact of investment (at the neighbourhood, regional and national level) in Europe, the USA and Canada for a global restaurant chain (2023–24)

  • Appraised the economic and social impacts, in particular on regional communities and global trade, of a new international highway connecting two South American countries (2023)

  • Modelled the economic impacts of a major airport in Northern Ireland (2023)

  • Analysed the viability of a funding and financing strategy for an extension of the London Overground to connect the boroughs of Outer London to each other (2023)

  • Assessed the impacts on regional economic performance of a new high-speed railway in a Central European country that will become part of the Trans-European high-speed rail network (2022–23)
